I used to wonder why nothing existed to address the persistent problems we experience daily. From neighborhood potholes that never get fixed to trash scattered across our hiking trails, we deal with random challenges constantly. We’re told that’s just part of life – but does it have to be?
The truth is that systems are usually in place to address these issues. However, we often run into the same three barriers:
💤 Systems exist as a formality but lack active or effective management.
⌛ Systems are so overloaded that they lead to obscene wait times or total inaction.
📉 Systems prioritize closing a high volume of tickets over achieving a high-impact resolution.
I’ve seen systems that truly support the people who need them, and I’ve experienced many that fall short. As an educator, I have seen how over-complicated red tape and broken communication can silence a neighborhood before it even gets started. Whether it is an obstructed school stop sign putting students at risk or a dangerous sidewalk collapse forcing families into active traffic, real solutions require persistence, accountability, and making sure the people meant to be served are actually heard.
What started as nightly walks to explore our city has turned into a fully-fledged advocacy model at Everyday Advocates. We are structured to utilize existing systems, drive innovative improvements, and collaborate with municipal leaders and businesses. We aren’t just identifying problems; we are working relentlessly to ensure South Florida is as safe and inclusive as it is vibrant.

I have had several life experiences where I trusted the systems in place and simply put: they failed.
Take a real-world example: An environmental protection agency receives a serious pollution report. Instead of a surprise audit, they casually pre-announce and coordinate a time to inspect with the polluter.
That's why we founded Everyday Advocates.
We are a community improvement non-profit that refuses to accept that neighborhood neglect is “just so normal,” or that “someone else will report it.” We focus on what matters to everyday people.
We don't just talk about these issues from an office – we walk the streets. Driving by isn’t a genuine way to assess a community. You have to walk those streets and become an everyday person.
My background in public safety and passion for night-shift work taught me: When the sun goes down, the world becomes a little more chaotic.
During the day, heavy traffic, business operations, and pedestrians mask the cracks. But at night? That's when you see the broken streetlights, the fresh vandalism, and the illegal dumping. Public Works might be off the clock, but the city doesn’t stop moving.
Everyday people shouldn’t have to fight tooth and nail just to have someone care and advocate for them.
If you're tired of waiting for "someone else" to fix the neighborhood, let’s do it together.
